Casino Operator Censured for ‘Unlimited Gaming’ Ads

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has decided against A&S Leisure Group, the operator of Napoleon’s Casino, for their promotional materials that suggested customers could engage in “unlimited gaming.” The ASA stated that such language should not be used in future promotions as it could be perceived as promoting reckless gambling.

The ASA censured Napoleon’s Casinos for statements made in their advertisements that patrons can enjoy “unlimited gaming.” The advertisements, which were displayed on napoleons-casinos.co.uk and Facebook, also promised patrons “unlimited entries into prize draws” and “unrestrained gambling.” One person who complained argued that all of the terms were socially irresponsible.

A&S Leisure Group maintained that they were permitted to advertise unlimited or unrestrained gambling to members under UK anti-money laundering regulations. However, the ASA determined that such wording should not be included in future promotions as it could be viewed as encouraging irresponsible gambling.

A statement from the ASA said: “The CAP Code specifies that advertisements must not depict, condone or encourage socially irresponsible gambling or gambling that could lead to financial, social or emotional harm.”

Commercials assert that individuals can engage in wagering without restrictions, promoting reckless gambling habits that could result in financial, interpersonal, or psychological distress.

Consequently, we determine that these advertisements are irresponsible and breach the Code.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) also sustained a grievance against Entain brand Ladbrokes in July, contending that its marketing materials were socially irresponsible.

A&S was penalized £377,340 earlier this year after the UK Gambling Commission discovered its anti-money laundering procedures were insufficient.
