Crown Resorts Offered Path to Reopening Sydney Casino But Must Prove Its Worth
## A Second Chance for Crown Resorts Hinges on Proving its Value
The New South Wales gaming regulator, the Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA), has presented Crown Resorts with a potential route to reopen its Sydney casino doors by late April. This opportunity, however, comes with a significant condition: Crown must convincingly display its dedication to ethical gaming principles.
This offer follows a highly critical assessment by retired New South Wales Supreme Court Justice Patricia Bergin, which deemed Crown unsuitable to retain its casino license. ILGA Chairman Philip Crawford emphasized that the responsibility lies solely with Crown to establish its suitability. While the regulatory body is obligated to collaborate with Crown in implementing the report’s suggestions, the final determination rests on the company’s concrete actions.
The intense examination of Crown, combined with cautions from the NSW Crime Commission regarding potential threats to the national economy, has reverberated throughout the sector. Senet, a prominent Australian consultancy specializing in gaming regulations and adherence, reacted by introducing two novel certifications: Senet Assure and Senet Assure Premium. These certifications strive to protect both businesses and patrons from gambling-related harm and illicit financial activities.
“These certifications are exclusively for operators who can exhibit the utmost levels of attentiveness,” stated Paul Newson, a regulatory and gaming specialist at Senet. “They provide industry frontrunners with a means to demonstrate that they are not merely satisfying but surpassing optimal practices in safeguarding customers and personnel, and cultivating a culture of compliance and social accountability.”
