Crown Resorts Under Scrutiny in Western Australia Casino Inquiry

An investigation into the Perth casino activities of Crown Resorts has been initiated in Western Australia. This follows a highly critical report in New South Wales that revealed the corporation facilitated illicit financial transactions and collaborated with high-roller tour organizers connected to criminal syndicates. The New South Wales investigation concluded that Crown was unsuitable to possess a license for its recently established Sydney casino.

Further intensifying the situation, Western Australia’s Gaming and Wagering Commission (GWC) is spearheading a comprehensive inquiry akin to a Royal Commission. This development arises after the GWC’s primary casino overseer was removed due to a compromising situation originating from a private association with a Crown Perth staff member.

Reports surfaced indicating that Michael Connolly, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries Deputy Director General, tendered his resignation the previous week. This followed disclosures regarding his fishing excursions with Crown personnel.

Crown Resorts has committed to complete transparency and collaboration with the Western Australian authorities throughout the investigation. The company asserts its dedication to working alongside regulators and enacting reforms to restore public and regulatory faith. Helen Coonan, Crown’s Executive Chairman, underscored the company’s commitment to constructive engagement with all regulatory bodies to reinstate confidence in their business practices.
