AstroPay is demonstrating its commitment to backing Ukrainian competitors at the 2022 Maccabiah Games hosted in Israel. This global contest, similar to the Olympics, is exclusively for Jewish athletes and those holding Israeli citizenship.

An estimated 10,000 athletes representing 80 nations are anticipated to participate across 40 diverse sporting events. Included in this number is a 36-person team from Ukraine, a country currently facing the trials of conflict. These 23 women and 13 men originate from various cities throughout the nation, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol. They are ready to display their talents in a range of disciplines, from fencing and karate to chess, volleyball, and swimming.

Mikael Lijtenstein, AstroPay’s CEO, conveyed his sense of pride in assisting the Ukrainian delegation. He recognized the difficult situation in their homeland and extended his best wishes, expressing faith in their capacity to bring honor to their nation.

The Maccabiah Games, occurring every four years in Israel, possess a storied past. This year’s event in Tel Aviv holds special significance as it marks the first time a current US president will be present.

In an unexpected move, President Biden graced the inaugural event of the World University Games with his presence, demonstrating his backing for the sizable 1,400-member US contingent. To provide context, that surpasses the number of athletes the US dispatched to the Tokyo Olympic Games the previous year! The Games are slated to conclude on July 25th.

On a separate note, the regulatory body for gambling in Ukraine recently inked a memorandum of understanding with its equivalent in Lithuania.
